Measure the product you need.
Begin with the intended use and carrying format: folding, straight, golf, capsule or another umbrella type. Record rib length, open diameter and closed length as separate measurements.
| Measurement | What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rib length | Length in centimetres or inches | Defines the frame specification |
| Open diameter | Canopy width when fully opened | Describes coverage |
| Closed dimensions | Length, width and depth when folded | Informs carrying and packing |
| Rib count | Number of ribs and canopy panels | Affects construction and artwork layout |
| Weight | Target weight and agreed tolerance | Helps review portability and product balance |
Do not infer wind resistance from rib count alone. Where performance matters, agree on a relevant test method and evidence with the supplier.
Describe the components together.
Fabric, coating, ribs, shaft, opening mechanism and handle form one product system. Record the preferred specification and identify which details can be discussed as alternatives.
- Canopy fabric and any coating or finish
- Frame and shaft materials
- Manual or automatic opening and closing
- Handle shape, material and wrist strap
- Sleeve, closure strap and packing requirements
For UV, water resistance or other performance claims, request the applicable test conditions and reports before using the claim in product content.

Give the design a precise specification.
Provide vector artwork where available, or high-resolution files sized for the intended print. Mark the panel, position, dimensions and orientation of each design element.
| Design item | Details to confirm |
|---|---|
| Colour | Physical swatch or colour code; screen previews are illustrative |
| Print placement | Panel location, logo scale, repeat direction and seam allowance |
| Printing method | Suitable method for the artwork and selected fabric |
| Additional branding | Handle, sleeve, strap, label and packaging |
Confirm the quotation scope.
State the estimated quantity, delivery destination and required timeline. Ask which costs are included and how sampling, packaging, inspection and transport are handled.
Review the sample against the written specification. Record changes and approve the final version before bulk production. Agree on inspection criteria and how any non-conforming products will be handled.
